I always thought that Will Smith was perfect casting in "The Legend of Bagger Vance." I thought the characterization of Vance was the physical representation of God, meaning that God is not the white guy that Christianity is forcing us to believe He is. I think that is as forward thinking as I was ever going to get from a Hollywood film. It isn't Chris Rock explaining to Linda Fiorentino that Jesus was actually a black man (like in Dogma), but I enjoy believing Will Smith's character was the physical interpretation of God.
I don't regard God as a magical creature. At least not the way Roy is describing here.

I thought that the Magical Negro archetype had to be literally magical in some way, like in The Shining, The Green Mile, or even Final Destination, the idea being that the Negro, being more folksy and "primitive" than the white hero, is more in touch with the unseen magical forces of nature, and therefore has the insight and power needed for the hero to prevail.

Aside from the joy of watching that mustache ... this is an interesting commentary. Absolutely not taking from Roy Wood Jr's statement, we used the same pattern all through American '50's TV, when there were nearly no black people on the screen. We always ALWAYS wanted Tonto's back story, but no. And when an ethnic sidekick isn't around, there's always a beautiful, highly professional woman who seems to have spent years gaining the credentials to be lucky enough to become the prize for the leading man. Male or female, a competent interesting character turns into scenery when the Only Hero in the Universe appears, and their stories are lost. Come to think of it, that's how we think about all the countries in the world too ...

lol, I'm pretty sure the "magical white people" were just supporting characters to black protagonists ... A "magical negro" is more nuanced thsn just a black person that helps a white person. The term "magic" is key, as if the life a black person is so mysterious, they're actually magical.

This was kind of funny but isn't it in bad taste? I mean the entire principal is that this wouldn't be okay if a white dude said any of this, but it's ok for him to crack racist jokes about white people? Also wondering how that word is allowed to be used. I guess it's just a comedy skit but it's a bit off putting

It's true. There's a _very_ little known movie called _Frankenstein: the College Years_ that involves a couple medical-school students, one of whose professors keels over and dies during a lecture, and he leaves one of them his estate in his will. They investigate and find the remains of Frankenstein's monster, and thereafter, follows a series of mad-cap high jinks.
There is _one_ character in the movie who is black, and his presence contributes absolutely _nothing_ to the plot. It seems to me it would've been a lot wiser if they had made one of the initial _students_ black.

I'd say no, since the descriptor Caucasian doesn't imply anything about superiority or inferiority, it just means you're of Indo-European stock. From the Caucasus Mountains, in case you weren't aware of the origin.
