  • Some of you guys have been curious for a while now what exactly am I studying, so here I outline very briefly how I applied to universities in Scotland (same system as for the whole of the UK). Second half of the video is a bit more in depth about my course and what we studied last year.

Can we talk more about SAAS? I am a EU student who wish to study in UK . SAAS is able to pay for my fees? like just like that? I'm comfused . I visited their page but i have not quite understood. Do i apply before i move there and before my classes start? Any help would be great

@KatChats so is no need to live in Scotland i can do it fro m here. Thankss, And it will always be accepted?

    • KatChats
      KatChats  3 months ago +1

Yeah so for now if you're EU they'll cover your fees. You can apply already a few months before your classes start (once you've accepted a study spot) or anytime before the academic year begins, you just follow the instructions on the website and do it all there. And then you just re-submit your application after every year before the next academic year starts. It's really simple and easy, just do the online application and then that's it and done. Don't have to think or do anything else! :)

I know this is a really old video but there’s only a few unis in Scotland who would have a MA degree possible which are the ancient universities in Scotland. Anywhere else in Scotland or the UK they would be BA degree which are the exact same thing. By the way thanks for the video I’m looking into doing psychology and sociology in a year and a half time in uni.

have you had any problems clarifying your degree in other countries? like since it’s called a masters but it’s actually a bachelors?

I think at my uni how it works is in Year 1 & 2 you take all the compulsory courses for each subject (so less electives) and Year 3 & 4 you take half and half, but only write your dissertation in one (you decide)

Yep, the only difference is the outside courses. They're discontinuing the MA now too.

Hi Kate!I found your video really helpful!I am going to study psychology in Scotland next year but I don't know which uni to go to.I have had offers from Strathclyde and Dundee university along with others. What is your opinion on these (maybe you have heard from friends, students). Also I am an international student and English is not my mother tongue language and I am really worried I am not gonna make it.Was psychology hard for you?
    *thank you in advance*

I am studying Geography.. but at the University of Dundee! At first I regretted leaving Glasgow but now I think it's fantastic. The course is incredible and the teaching standards and communication with the staff is brilliant. There is a huge crowd of international students and societies aswell :-)

    • KatChats
      KatChats  Year ago +1

I don't personally have much experience outside of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, but as the psych degree in Scotland is recognized by the British Psychology Society there has to be certain requirements met. Therefore I think the course structure should be fairly similar in all schools. I wouldn't worry about English not being your native language - in my class there was loads of non-English students :) Look into the cities and which place you think you would find most enjoyable to live in and what the university itself has to offer. I wish you the best of luck! :)

  • Ema Pereira

I'm interested in studying psychology in Scotland as well. Thank you for the information. In what university are you studying and how hard was it to get it, with you're overall score? And because your background was more related to humanities (like me) and you had to take a MA, is there such a big difference than and Bsc?

    • KatChats
      KatChats  Year ago

+Ema Pereira I was at Edinburgh and since I did IB the entry requirements were very clearly stated so as long as I met those all was good haha :) Its on the uni website what the requirements are. Bsc and MA the only difference was outside courses. MA I could take anything I wanted - including science courses. Bsc you had a set requirement of science based courses you had to take as outside courses :)

Also how are the professors and how are other people on the course? How big is the course? Thanks and a great video, btw :)

I absolutely LOVE the city, it's compact and very walkable. I feel like the people are quite friendly especially the students. The first year is quite big maybe 200 people? Second year goes down to about 100ish, then 3rd and 4th even smaller. In terms of professors it depends. Some are better than others :)

I really appreciate the fact that you took time to make this video, it was really helpful, so thank you very much! ^_^ I am also considering studying in Scotland, but I don't cover enough math/science subjects in my high school, but arts. Would that be a problem to enter in BCs? Because you mentioned it was a problem for you and you entered in MA. Is it like harder in BCs than in MA? I'd be really happy if you respond me. Have a nice day! ^^

    • KatChats
      KatChats  3 years ago +1

You would have to check the specific subject requirements to the course you're interested in. I know I could have switched into a Bsc program after starting at my uni even though I wouldn't have been able to apply straight into one. The only difference between the two for my course was the outside/optional courses. Bsc you had to take a certain amount of courses from the science department.

Moi! Kiitos mahtavista videoista! Mua kiinnostais tietää että miten pääsit kyseiseen kouluun sisään ja miten toi hakeminen muihin Eurooppalaisiin kouluihin tapahtuu. Mennäänkö siinä siis kyseisen maan valintakokeisiin vai onko eri valintakoe muille? Vai onko kyse maksullisesta koulutuksesta? Kiitos jo etukäteen! :)

    • KatChats
      KatChats  3 years ago +1

OK. That´s mainstream social psychology :). I teached that a couple of times in my country (Venezuela), but was curious because i know that a strong movement in social psychology comes from the UK (Mainly London), that studies another set of topics or the same topics in different ways. Thanks and greetings from Venezuela

I hope I will get in this year, I've been studying so hard haha I wish I could study in UK or somewhere else, but it is too expensive. I'm surprised there is an 'easy' way to cover the fees, because I'm rather sure I couldn't cover them on my own.
I really like that system btw, it's very open and you can basically choose what you're about to do without really switching to another major. Where I live you're mostly just actively studying one thing at the time, there aren't really side classes. (Besides the one that are necessary for your major)
Also, then you were really lucky and got a good teacher! I'm pretty interested in Physics and also Linguistics, since my school didn't really offer any linguistics classes or something like this, I took Physics and my teacher was basically the worst teacher you can possibly imagine, she was literally like 60-70 years old and she always just let us read the same pages over and over again for the whole damn year, and she gave us grades for solving example equations.., so you basically had to ace it.. I mean, the whole equations as well as their solotions were on this page! And still! Half of my class doesn't remeber the topic anymore..
Anyways, enough of that haha! Great video again and keep it up!
    -Chris

    • KatChats
      KatChats  3 years ago

+Christian Klöckner Yeah I mean tbh those were major pulling factors to get me to try moving somewhere different for a bit. Have you decided what program you want to do in graduate school? Finding a professional job without a graduate degree in psychology is quite difficult unless you did one or more internships during/after your undergraduate degree to get practical experience in a field (that probably doesn't have much to do with psychology).
