You can clearly see why Uk was succesful before 2000 and why it didn't manage a top 3 result (except Jessica Garlick) after 2000. Uk seems to be uninterested in the competition, their songs lack of soul, lack of fun, lack of interest, lack of everything that made them a powerhouse in the '900 era...

I thought Surie had a strong entry. She deserved better. The again, I had The Makemakes winning it all in 2015. Shows you what I know.

UK do badly because of politics . . . . . . actually no, our songs are mainly awful.
We have an hour long show from a bunch of moderate performances to pick from. Sweden have Melodifestivalen, a 6 week contest to find the best. No surprise we suck. People will still vote for UK, Jade proved that in 2009.
PS, Lucie Jones was robbed, but should have entered dance version and Molly deserved better.

Do we really give a toss about not doing much anymore in this cackfest. Think of the contribution this country has made to popular music and think also of the rest of the world, even The USA in certain periods looking at us with complete envy. Think of giants like The Beatles ,The Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Led Zepp, Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Dire Straits, Oasis, Coldplay, Adele, and many many more. Continental Europe, with the exception of one single country producing one single band , namely Sweden and ABBA, the entire place between them haven't got within a million miles of ever finding one single act that could lace any of our top artists' boots.

The UK haven't taken Eurovision seriously since 1976, when established artists and song writers stopped being asked to contribute.
The standard plummeted and interest has never recovered. The Jonathan King years 95-99 brought some hope and there has been the occasional highlight, but frankly ask anyone to name one UK entry from the last 20 years, 95% wouldn't have a clue!
I can't ever see things improving because sadly people have no interest in this anymore.

Except for a couple of exceptions the scoreboard doesn't lie. Since 2000 we've been crap. But then so has music in general. It's like as the bells tolled away the 20th century the world collectively forgot how to make decent popular music.

Generally dodgy entries recently and a change to it being about politics and hatred rather than music.
If we'd have put Ellie Goulding on stage during the height of her fame on stage with just a guitar she'd have beaten anyone.

    • Mitjitsu
      Mitjitsu 7 months ago +3

It's always been political. Any entry in 2003 would have finished last and probably gotten nul points, because of the Iraq war. Likewise, a similar result this year because of Brexit, as many especially in Eastern Europe didn't like the potential of freedom of movement coming to an end.
