Are 2019 Gaming Laptops Worth It Yet?

  • Published on Apr 27, 2019
  • RTX gaming laptops launched with crazy price tags but now the GTX 1650, 1660 and 1660 Ti laptops are here. Those bring much better value for 2019.

Unless you wanna dive into ray traced grames (all 4 of them), I think the 1660Ti devices are sweet spot this year. Whatchu think?

@Dave Lee out of the asus and the msi brands what would be your top recommendation for each? I've been looking for an good gaming laptop for RPGs, sandbox and FPS games and I have really fancied the rog series but have seen and heard a lot of good about bot them and msi but would just like a top recommendation for bot brands.

I never comment on videos, but I have to say I followed your advice. Picked up a 2018 Alienware m15 new from dell for like $700 ish bucks. I up'd the RAM to 32gb, so happy with my choice.

I loved the one you linked in your description but i wont go for it because it doesnt supports thunderbolt ! Its like what if in 2020 they released games for rtx series or some new graphic cards cheaper but for the best games !
So i would say you must remove that laptop link
      + razor blade 15 or msi gs65
I would go with you msi gs65 !

I have a nephew who is about to start studying games design. As he will not be playing any particular game what do you recommend from the slim line up and from the chunky gaming laptops between the RTX's, 1070 onwards and 1660 Ti? I am assuming you may have changed your mind by now as 2020 approaches. Thanks.

the RTX laptops really are not worth it indeed, the only one maybe is RTX 2080, even that runs RTX stuff ok but not great. so all the other ones 2070 and 2060 is even worse, and as more time passes games get more needy specially with RTX. so technically its better to wait for 3000 series gpu laptops. atm better get 1070 or 1660 ti that are really good price to performance machines

I have spent much time in researching and reviewing pros and cons and just seeing the results of gaming laptops over time I have come to the logical conclusion that gaming laptops are a waste of money and make no sense. For example take buy refurbished sections and so on ..they are are all littered with laptops from all ends of the spectrum. From expensive to mid-range to cheap laptops, it's a literal grave yard of gaming laptops desperate to be sold due to buyer's remorse and defective and repaired returns . Also I haven't even gotten into all the issues that come with gaming laptops and none !! Absolutely none of them are with out issues. From alienware 17s heating issues to MSI gs75 poor build quality , to the tin audios of them all or the poor hinge issues or the backlight bleed they all suffer from. Let's not forget the throttling. They all have issues. Why do people by these things ? They are so desperate to game they can't wait to get home? Who really games at Starbucks 😂. And as people drop thousands of dollars to feel like they have the best only to realize later " wtf did I do?" Lol I even saw a video of some idiot who poured 10,000 I to an Alienware area 51m ...really ?? Wtf for? To game outside of home ? Because if it was a desktop replacement why dump 10 grand when you can build a machine for a fraction of the cost smh. And as I see review after review it still amazes me how lost we can be when we don't think logically but let colors dazzle us only to wake up in regret. With these new thin laptops coming out that breaks and bend easy and over heat like hell we are better off burning our money.

also is it necessary to care about graphic cards for cybersecurity and computer engineering classes?

  • Tredd

I've watched loads of his videos and i'm still torn...

I want to get a reasonably thin and light laptop that is relatively "future proofed" that I can also use for general productivity. At least 1 USB A and an ethernet port are must haves, not too fussed about a thunderbolt port although if it has one that's great of course. About 6 hours of battery life would be sufficient. Mainly, a durable laptop is what I need. I will look after it but I don't want a flimsy keyboard or something, willing to pay extra for better build quality. A 1080p screen will be adequate at 60hz, I don't need a super good screen. 32GB RAM would definitely be ideal, but 16GB would be adequate so long as I could upgrade it later. Storage is a very key point. 2TB+ would be ideal, no less than 1TB. Would prefer more storage with a HDD as oppose to the speed of an SSD, however if I can have both then that's really great. Standard membrane keyboard will do and a half decent large-ish trackpad. Speaker quality and camera quality aren't priorities at all. RGB would be nice but not essential.

If anyone could give me any advice on what to purchase that would be great :)
