  • In this video, I'm interviewing my friend who has recently visited Finland for the first time. We talk about his first impressions, the food, meeting Sauli Koskinen, new Finnish words and phrases he learnt during the trip and would he ever visit Finland again..? xD
Sorry again about the grainy quality, I film with natural light and Scotland is so darn cloudy all the time that even though it seems like there would be some light...turns out there isn't D:

SORRY everyone for the disgusting grainy quality D: I waited a week to film with Heon and all the days were super cloudy (since I film with natural light) so we thought we'd try it out and see what happens...NEVER AGAIN!! haha darn Scottish cloudy weather xD Trial and error I suppose, but hope you can ignore that and try to enjoy the video nonetheless, I spent a heck ton of hours putting hard subs for this in English so hopefully it's helpful for some?? (And yes there are a few spelling mistakes my apologies..). :)

"avantouinti" is not a normal Finnish tradition. I´m 29years old, never done it :D It`s more of an "if U dare" (some people don`t swim in lakes even in summer becose they think the water is cold then (dumb people ;) ) I swim in summer of course). Sauna is a Finnish thing. Everyone Finnish has done it sometime in their life and most of the people do it weekly (some minority daily).

    • Thamor
      Thamor 2 years ago +1

It's more about if you have Sauna close to a place with lake or the option to do "avantouinti", not many seek it just to get the chance in winter. Sauna and good full snow outside is the best way to go still with the option to swim :D

Actually I believe Finns are very much different from other nordic countries. When I was introduced by my colleagues and started going out and become friend with them, I found they were hot blooded people like southern europeans.. like andalusians or southern Italians. I shared my house and my liver with them.

Gianfranco M But we have nothing in common with nordics. We're closer to Hungarians, Estonians and Volga-People for fuck's sake.

I love this! I wish I could have South-Korean friend who lives in Finland cause I'd love to exchange the language etc. :) I tried to learn some Korean when I was younger but it's way easier if there is someone to help you out with pronounciation and correcting you if you say something incorrectly. This video is so cute! Keep doing these!

My first impression of finland was: It way more friendly than sweden. I just took the train in leppävaara heading to helsinki's train station and my clueless self had no idea there are certain wagons where the ticket can be bought inside the train. So the inspector comes, ask for my ticket, (which i didn't have) and , in my defense, just said that my friend just gave me these instructions and i don't know where to buy it. Inspector said :" Well sorry but i'll have to give you a fine..", "What are you doing here?" so i told him i was travelling across Europe, he asks for my id. sees it.. "well see the guy over there, just hand him 5 euros and buy the ticket". I was actually impressed with how nice he was considering that i "fucked it up". In Sweden i was coming into Anchor Pub and this guard gives me a lot of shit, assumes i was drunk and i was like "WTF? i'm just coming in?, so yes.. on that note Finland Wins.. (Sorry Swedish Friends)

I´m glad he had really nice time at Finland and got to talk with some helpful and warm Finnish peoples. There is some of us like that, but some of us is still cold and awkward. And I hope he would be able to visit Lapland (North of Finland) next time. ^^
Oh.. And I don´t know Which days he was at Finland at January. But if he was like 5.1. at Finland, there was South Korean kpop boygroup called 24K visiting and having concert at Finland, Helsinki at Gloria. I was in that concert and it was super fun, it was my first kpop concert as well. ^^ I hope I will be able to visit South Korea some day, even thought I think I won´t be able to eat much Korean food, because I hate spicy food. ^^" And Yes, reindeer is expensive, but taste is so good with mashed potatoes . :3

    • Mao Waternight
      Mao Waternight 2 years ago

Yes, 24K did come to Finland 5.1.2017. And Yes, Block B is coming to Finland this month, if they aren´t here already, I don´t remember the concert day, because I´m not going. I simply live at Lapland, so it takes me too much money to attend two kpop concert in two months. ^^" The concert was the best concert I have been and I haven´t been in lot of concerts. :D Your welcome and thank you for replying to my comment, it´s really nice, that some people at RU-clip will answer some of the peoples that comments to their videos. ^^

Oh did they, I completely was oblivious to the fact! I did hear about Block B coming though. I'm glad you enjoyed the concert though, sounds like fun! Thank you for your amazing comment!! ^-^

When you want to visit scandinavia but you can't because your money is worthless in europe so you watch some videos about Finland. Thanks for videos ^^

    • Thamor
      Thamor 2 years ago +1

The extended usage in English: Iceland and the Faroe Islands on account of their populations being largely descended from Scandinavians, the Åland Islands for its ethnic Swedish population, Finland on account of its historical association with Sweden and its Swedish minority.
As I said if you want to take the word from historical and accurate point of view you are still correct. If you take the Scandinavia word in Modern use for people around the globe then Nordic countries are included mostly in it. My point here isn't to dispute what you are saying, but trying to tell you that the word Scandinavia isn't nowadays used only to say for the 3 monarchy countries.

    • Gaius Baltar
      Gaius Baltar 2 years ago

Thamor Finland is not close to the Scandic mountains. Icelanders are descendents of Norwegians. Scandinavian refers only to north Germanic nations centered in the Scandic area (hence the name Scandinavia). Finns are urgrians and Finland is not adjacent to the Scandic mountains.

    • Thamor
      Thamor 2 years ago +1

You are correct in a way that Norway, Sweden & Denmark monarchies are the old normal way of when talked of Scandinavia. Nowadays if you say Scandinavia you mean all the north Europe countries so Norway,Sweden,Finland,Denmark & Iceland. It's mostly accepted to include all the other countries to they saying too, but in the end it's all up to people saying it how they define the meaning for it. :)

    • Tom Reneqe
Tom Reneqe 2 years ago +1

      All Korean kids speak English,
they all listen to AFKN and
      watch AFKN TV (armed forces
korea network ) if they live away
      from a military presence they
will pursue a me gun walking
down the street, and ask if they
can speak with you. The greater
the distance from a base the
      rarer the opportunity to exchange
      conversation.
