Best video I've ever seen for making jerky. I really like how you lay out the options without the usual "this way is BAD" but rather inform people on how to make it a certain way and achieve a certain result if that's what they are after. Kudos man!

@Cooking With Ry does it matter how wet the marinade is for the jerky, and do you have to include some sort of marinade or just any liquid, like honey or something? You may not see this, but if anyone else has any idea, please help out. Thanks!

I have made jerky two days in a row on my LoneStar Grillz offset. I had to use a piece of wood to keep the cook chamber door open instead of using the chimney. The door is almost closed on the firebox. I imagine the fire is getting air from the open CC door. It is turning out very nice. It is a struggle to keep the temp below 200 but jerky is jerky even if I get there a little faster.

I really like your process. I was slicing and hydrating the meat. You cut (sorry) a lot of time off the "making" process by the London broil and get a jerky that is edible not a tug of war.

Have some of your videos disappeared? I thought there was a beef jerky one where you used very basic ingredients. Worchestershire and soy sauces, garlic and onion powder. maybe some chili flakes also. I can't seem to find it now.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Finally someone that actually covers how to tell if the jerky is done. I have been so frustrated by so many other videos. Low Res, they go from setting up and putting it in the oven then suddenly they are eating it. I can't believe how many jerky videos I watch that don't cover the MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MAKING JERKY.

London broil is indeed a cut of meat

    • Cooking With Ry
Cooking With Ry  3 months ago

@unafilliated x No, it's not incorrect. The cut is a specific part from the animal. London Broil is sometimes one of several cuts, either Top Round (most often), bottom round, and I've even seen flank steak sold under that label. The name is the preparation, not the cut.

    • unafilliated x
      unafilliated x 3 months ago

@Cooking With Ry Its BOTH but to say it is not a cut of meat present day, is incorrect.

    • Cooking With Ry
Cooking With Ry  3 months ago

It's a preparation, not a cut. It's marketed as that name but traditionally it's a top round.

Ry, another great recipe and video, thanks!
So I watched your video about making jerky in the oven since I don’t have a smoker per se. I have a char griller and have made your ribs and chicken on indirect heat and they were GREAT! You think these would work using indirect heat on my grill? And would you expect time and temps to be about the same as your video?

    • Brad Johnson
      Brad Johnson 3 months ago

Cooking With Ry as a newbie, you have challenged me and everyone for that matter, to have fun and experiment. I accept that challenge, well once the temperature drops from the 100’s here! 😱

    • Cooking With Ry
Cooking With Ry  3 months ago

If you can keep the temp down in that 160-170 range, it should be about the same time frame :)

I started smoking meats on an electric smoker. Once i learned the fundamentals of bbq and graduated from the electric smoker the only thing i EVER used it for was jerky. I eventually got rid of it and now just use a dehydrator. Love homemade jerky. So much better than any store brand. I can make 2.5 lbs of meat and between me and my fiance its gone within 24 hours. My 1 tip though is to remove all moisture or liquids from the surface of the meat. The more wet the surface is the longer it will take to dry because all that moisture has to be cooked off first. However, if you dont mind a longer cook time and want some of that flavor to cook onto the meat then dont worry about it. Damn i want some jerky now Ry. Thanks for the craving bud.

Ry, I definitely remember Kissinger along with Secretary of Defense Robert (strange) McNamara 1961 - 1968. That sumbitch was the architect of stupidity in the Vietnam War.
I appreciate the video you made on making your own beef jerky it was excellent! Better than buying it in the store because there's not all the chemicals and preservatives. I especially appreciate the way you explained on how to slice the meat with the grain or against it to get a better chew outcome. I have only one problem with your jerky, as fast as I can make it I EAT IT! ; )
