Trashing Stereotypes 💥 | Andi Mack | Disney Channel

  • Published on Jul 1, 2019
  • Catch up on Andi Mack’s top OMG, craziest moments before the series finale! Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) wants to prove a stereotype wrong after a girl in her class makes a false assumption about her!
Watch Andi Mack on Disney Channel and in DisneyNOW!
Every moment, every mistake, and every maybe matters when you are part of the good hair crew! Andi (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), increasingly confident about expressing herself, navigates her relationship with Jonah Beck (Asher Angel) and new territory in her long-standing friendships with Buffy (Sofia Wylie) and Cyrus (Joshua Rush). Meanwhile, she continues to work on building a family unit with her parents, Bex (Lilan Bowden) and Bowie (Trent Garrett), who are new to parenting but are doing their best through humor, love and open communication. These are the moments to remember especially when you're surrounded by the ones you love.

It's evident some people doesn't understand why Andi got upset when that girl said all those things about her lol.
Us Asians are stereotyped to be smart, an instrument player, pretty much good at everything. And many of us feel that we have to live up to such stereotypes otherwise we would be a disappointment or "not Asian enough".
I've been told by my (now) former best friend that "You should be good at math because you're Asian" and "You literally only do well on tests because you're Asian." Clearly she was joking but personally, I didn't favor it and was annoyed.

Why would you get offended by that? How is it bad that someone think you're good at computers and the violin. Glad I grew up when jessie, good luck Charlie and wizards of Waverly place was around. And I know the shows before those shows were even better

Andi Mack gets on my nerves it’s way to dramatic and to grown. The girl goes out and does whatever she wants whenever she wants and back talks her parents like who does that? The fact that Jonah is or was dating a girl in high school and he is in middle school is completely wack! This show honestly gets on my nerves and I don’t like it at all.

    *QUESTION* 🙋🏻‍♂️
So, about Andi Mack. What I figured out about the show is disturbing. The whole Disney channel wants to stop bullying. Here is Andi Mack where one point they were calling Amber a snake or scorpion. I don't know, Lord knows what y'all doin'. Why did y'all do that? Isn't name calling consider bullying?! *SMH*

I was stereotyped for a school shooter because I wore sweatshirts all the time and I never talked. I where sweatshirt because they make me feel more comfortable and I don’t talk because of social anxiety. And they wonder why I don’t talk. I’m scared of guns, too.

One of my favorite episodes, probably because it's relatable. Everyone always expects me to live up to Asian stereotypes, but I'm not like that. This show is so progressive in talking about more mature topics. This is why it's one of my favorite shows

I find this so cringy. We make assumptions about people based on their outward appearance all the time, whether we admit it or not. And the assumptions made about Andi because she's Asian weren't even negative. Unless being good at computers and playing an instrument are somehow bad things. I'm an average looking white guy. I could see someone looking at me and assuming I like sports, beer, and tools. In reality, I have no interest in any of that. However, I wouldn't get offended if someone assumed that about me. If people don't know the real you, maybe it's because you haven't shown them. I went to school with kids from kindergarten through high school, and I never knew many of them. Is it a requirement that you have to know every intimate detail about someone just because your paths have crossed? How many people know what their own neighbors are really like? I used to think "victim culture" was just hyperbole, but the more I see stuff like this, the more I believe it's real.

    • Frank Mendez
Frank Mendez 2 months ago +6

Andi wasn't hurt because the stereotypes are bad, she was hurt because these are students she's known since kindergarten and they didn't really know her, they only made assumptions about her based on her ethnicity, and before you say "well I talked about that in my comment, just because you knew someone for a long time or you're paths have crossed, doesn't mean you really know them." What I have to say to that is well Andi knew stuff about the other students, as we can see in this clip, so why didn't they know stuff about her?

  • Tyna Kat Roberts
Tyna Kat Roberts 2 months ago +2

I think Andy was a little dramatic, it's not the girls fault she didn't know Andy well, did Andy really make an effort to know her? All Andy knew was the other girl was popular right? That's not any different

    • Melania Matuzić
      Melania Matuzić 2 months ago

It's not Andy who said that other girl is popular one. When her friend said that all class knew that that's this other girl.

It was. And i don't deny that but people stereotype me all the time, I don't throw a hissy fit. Also she didn't say anything bad about it, she didn't say anything offensive. It was just a little annoying. I just think she made too big of a deal for something so common.
