Bobby Fischer's 21-move brilliancy

  • Bobby Fischer creates a chess masterpiece in only 21 moves against Robert Eugene Byrne, an International Master, at the 1963/1964 United States Chess Championship, held in New York. At 20 years young, Grandmaster Robert James Fischer was already among the world's very best chess players. In this brilliancy, Fischer demonstrates how to inject multiple imbalances into a highly symmetrical position, how to properly highlight these differences to benefit oneself, and how to accurately assess the true value of the pieces as they rest on the board.

It's not completely over at 18:20 the horse or rook could move to e4 and block the backup of the bishop and therefore preventing a check mate

9:03 that black pawn is literally free.. there is a bishop queen and knight attacking it and black only has a queen and knight to defend. So what do you mean "black is in a better position". He should be losing material.
There is no way this is a Bobby Fischer game; Any pro would not see that free pawn and just move the rook behind the queen.

    • Sooner Orlater
      Sooner Orlater 19 days ago

mainly chess is boring for those who can't sit still long enough to engage their mind in a complex mental activity; these types tend to be somewhat shallow, impatient, have short spans of attention, and not such good listeners. chess can "exercise" the mental faculties like no other activity (game) requiring skills of reasoning, planning, remembering, deduction. to put my point another way: good chess players are never (or rarely) the weaker academic students.

Why not white rook to e2? Wouldn't that stop the checkmate? Queen stays put, bishop takes queen ,rook takes bishop, black queen can't make checkmate???? Sorry I'm just a noob, didn't play it out past that but why would wquen take bishop seeing bqueen would make checkmate?

quick question and i am an amateur so forgive me if i am just completely wrong but wouldn't for move 25 Rx4e be the better move effectively blocking the advance. although you may loose your queen in the process you are either able to take more of your opponents pieces or cause your opponent to retreat giving you time to bring out your rooks bishop and knight to launch a counter strike.

Okay, I am not good at thinking so many moves ahead, it's why I'm not a great chess player, but what happens if white does not take the Bishop with this Queen? What if he moves his Knight or Rook to E4? Probably the Knight would be the better move. Sure he will lose his Queen to the Bishop and white would be at a pretty big disadvantage, but the game would not be over yet, right? Or am I missing something? Someone enlighten me.
