The Cinderella thing (#5) was totally stolen from Ever After (1998).

Thank god I'm not the only one who appreciates the dark or beautiful twists in the Disney live-actions. People say Maleficent was shit but I disagree for the very reason that was highlighted in this video. In the original, there was no reason or motive behind the curse other than simply being villainous. But in the remake, the curse came as a result of Maleficent's broken heart and her belief that true love doesn't exist. Alas, she learned to love again and broke her own curse.

What about the glass slipper *magically* refusing to fit anyone but Cinderella??? I thought that'd be #1. The original never said that and it makes no sense that no one else would fit into the shoe unless it was a condition of the spell

Oh thank you for this, I'm so bored and angry sometimes how most of the people talk about these great movies. All the older animated movies are still accessible and part of our childhood and yes, film making is a business but I'm so glad to see all of these and the upcoming movies because I never felt these projects take my memories but add a new conception, cast, vision and message and I think it's more useful then most of people think. I always hear everybody needs something really new but when Disney or other company make something new, people usually just ask 'What is this? Never heard it before (... so I really don't care at all)'... so after all I'm happy to know there's a few people who perceive the value of Disney's remakes and respect the work behind them with heart, time and talent.

Definitely not me... I’m *totallyyy* fine with a dark eyed, dark haired, dark skinned girl playing a blue eyed, red haired, pale skinned mermaid.😅😅

When I saw Maleficent as a kid my first thought was "why did you do King Stephen like this😭? I loved him in the original!" I will never consider him evil and now every kid in this generation will grow up with this and not appreciate how kind and fun the original king was

A point about Snow White that often goes overlooked: She's a royal, but she can do practical things. Her domesticity in the Dwarfs' cottage appears sexist to us today, but to Depression audiences of the 1930s, her ability to "roll up her sleeves" and make the best of her reduced circumstances, would have been endearing and admirable. it showed them she wasn't a snob.

I REALLY did not like the Maleficent movie. Not every villain has to be woobified, and doing that to Maleficent of all people is an honest to god crime imho. She is iconic in her villainy. Count me as one fan who did *not* like the changes in Maleficent.

am i the only one who dislike BATB? Its not a really bad live action, it just the film is badly edited (sometimes it feels the film feels rush), the camera works is terrible and Emma Watson is miscast as belle (she cant act)

I personally think Aladdin is the best live action remake so far. I haven’t seen Lion King, but I’m gonna be that person that says it isn’t live action, just better animation. Aladdin just had so much going for it, from the music to the scenery. I thought it was a overall beautiful movie.

#1 seems to be reinforced in Aladdin, with Jasmine having better motives, and seeming more confident and independent.
Hopefully it's the same case with Mulan and Ariel.

Fun Fact: The live action Cinderella is exactly as it was supposed to be (plus deleted scenes) in the original but they cut alot because of run time and everyone else (other than Walt Disney) thought it was unnecessary for Cinderella and the Prince to met beforehand.

the thing with the diverse cast is just stupid. It felt like Cinderella had just a black guy so they could say they weren't racist. Now there are so many movies with just that one nice black guy but the rest is white. Also the Priest from Beauty and the Beast would have been hated in his town because in this time France wasn't the nicest place to be black

  • Morganne Campbell
Morganne Campbell 2 months ago favorite Cinderella remake will be the 1990’s verison based on Roger & Hammerstein. It was soooo good and diverse that when I was a child I thought Black + White = Philippino haha jk jk
What I’m trying to say, is that it was based on the actors ability and not dimmed by their color. It was passionate, entertaining, diverse and captivating with all it’s mixtures in colors. I wish that more fills didn’t always try to fit things into a certain look, but based it on the actual acting. But that’s just my opinion

  • Jose Hill
Jose Hill 2 months ago +1

Yes they are doing some color blind casting, but how about putting more people of color in the leading roles and not just supporting characters. The Little Mermaid is a start but Disney you gotta do more.

Let the fans of these logically airtight live-action remakes have them. The rest of us will have to settle for the enchantment and whimsy of the original masterpieces.

maleficent is the perfect example of a live action remimaging because it actually reveals why the mistress of evil cursed aroura and gives anyone who has only heard the classic story some very much needed insight into maleficent's character allowing her to be seen with a fresh set of eyes and let's fans of classic disney relate to her looking back if you watch sleeping beauty after seeing maleficent you will see that they are 2 sides of the same coin

This is why I love live action Disney films💞Cuz they show more to the story of either the villain or the hero. For example, in maleficent,u got to understand her story and how she became evil and the animated film of course didn’t show that🤔and I just thought that it’s really cool as well as interesting on how Disney shows more of or adds on to the story of the live action films👍💯💞🥰

Am I the only one that didn't care for Maleficent? That movie kind of butchers the whole story. The Mistress of All Evil is NOT meant to care about a baby she cursed, so she shouldn't be feeding it, protecting it, etc., and she shouldn't actually start to like her to the point that she herself breaks her own curse. That's just not right! I don't count that movie as a live action Sleeping Beauty remake.
I was glad to see some of the clarity given to us in the other movies, like how a town couldn't realize the castle disappeared. The cartoon version of Cinderella just stated that Lady Tremaine was jealous of Cinderella's charm and beauty, but the fact that in the live action version she said how much Cinderella reminds her of the husband she'd lost, well, it makes more sense.
I'm still scared to see the disaster they're making of The Little Mermaid considering they're changing the entire race of everyone in it. It should just be a whole new version rather than a remake if they're going to change how the characters look. Every single one of their live action remakes have shown the characters looking at least somewhat like their cartoon versions. Why change that? If it's not broke, don't fix it.
This video itself even says that Disney is focusing more on diversity and what not. That's all well and good, but when people expect live action versions to look like the cartoon counterparts, it's not okay. If they want to add diversity, do it how they did with the other live action movies - don't make them the "main" characters. For The Little Mermaid, how about Grimsby, Carlotta, or the chef? They could be diverse. Oh wait, they already ARE! Carlotta is Hispanic and the chef is French! Huh. Imagine that.

    1. Just because she has a love interest doesn’t make a character weak or dependent all the princesses are strong in their own ways.
    2. They weren’t diverse in casts because of where the movies took place primarily in Europe.
I do agree with everything else on this list though. Beauty and the beast has to be my favorite remaking I don’t care what anyone says it gave me so much more love for the movie

you forgot to add that in the original beauty and the beast the servants were cursed seemingly just because they lived in the castle. in the live action they explain that they were cursed because they saw the abuse the prince's father made him go through and they did nothing to stop it.

Who cares what color you are I’m not white but I see myself in Steve Rogers/Captain America. Or I’d like to think I’m as heroic as the mighty Hercules I don’t need to see my race on screen to feel like I’m being represented cuz all I care about is who the character is and how I relate to that characters character
