Don't forget the price of the first Apple computer and the Adam and Eve advertisement themes. Then when Steve was asked why the price is 666 like the devil's number, he said he didn't realize that. Apple starts with lies and evils so why expect more?

Honestly, with all the hate, I have a 2017 MacBook Pro (i5, 13 inch) and it runs like a champ when I’m video editing. It’s a hell of lot faster then my Windows 8 PC I built back in the day. Of course a lot of that is Apples wicked fast SSD.
Is there thermal issues down the road I might be dealing with? Yeah sadly it might be an issue. I have built PC’s and I know how that works. And honestly no one can know how long they will last ... because it has only been like 2 years since it was released. I’m pretty confident the keyboard issue is actually a heating issue and the new 16 inch MacBook Pro 💻 keyboard (along with better cooling) is Apple hiding that fact. But the fact that exists proves that Apple does care and can design an awesome laptop.

Apple is deliberately letting their laptops overheat
This has been their model since Steve died. Tim Cook cant innovate and has no idea what customers want so to keep Apple profitable they just abuse planned obsolescence.

Just download Mac Fan app and target temperature to 60° celsius, it solves the problem.
I still think Mac OS is better to align unix customization as Linux do and interface applications as windows do.

A long time ago in place not so far away apple did make a computer suitable for gaming. The problem was noise. Old Steve didn’t like noise he saw it as a flaw in design. That’s why they started to target their computers to office work. They never thought about the fact that people that knew computers were probably gaming at home. Consequently they would want what they knew at work. It also made sense from a company standpoint as that’s less training needed to run a computer. That mindset bit them in the ass so hard that the company would almost sink. Really until the IPhone was introduced apple was in trouble. What I find interesting is gaming on an iPhone makes so much sense because they had a different perspective on a phone. I suspect if phones made lots of noise the iPhone would have horrible specks too

Can someone tell me why my 17inch 2011 Macbook Pro died one day after a few years around 2016? It wasn't riddled with Viruses as far as I could tell. Are they programmed to die on some time limit so Apple forces you to upgrade or is that just an unproven conspiracy? It did get really hot pretty often though.

Money dictates the direction of most businesses and in this case Apple's business is iPhones. We always get a new iPhone model every year, yet users pull their hair trying to get a laptop or desktop with up-to-date specs from Apple. It's such a shame because I grew up using Macs from the Motorola CPU days to the PowerPCs. Those machines just kept working and I still have a working IIsi. This trend of slimmer and lighter is killing the machines. In terms of computers Apple is more into design aesthetics rather than designing something that properly works.

honestly apple just rips people off so bad. you can buy those specs easily for hundreds to thousands of dollars cheaper on a windows.. I think I bit the bullet because of the apple ecosystem (integrated iMessage), just the reliability (this current one has given me use for 7 years), while having the my most accurate and fluid trackpad (if anyone can suggest a Windows laptop trackpad that compares to apple’s, please @me), and the experience, albeit an expensive experience.
gg if you a clout chaser tho

All heating issues aside.. Macs better for audio and music recording/production, I don't care about top "speed" as much as:
    1) solid USB/firewire chipset, bus bandwidth etc.. that doesn't do weird crap
    2) OS that doesn't flake out for random reasons
    3) Audio drivers of high end external gear plain old EFFING work on a Mac
To sum up, the power of a machine is not always speed. But heating issues effecting lifespan, that sucks.

  • death-by-ego
    death-by-ego 6 days ago

Mac and PC equivalent are same price. Yup. Now fast forward lets say 3 years. You want to get a new system. How much is it then? Answer: PC is much much much more cheaper. Why? You don't have to buy a new ballin 4k monitor.. cause you got it already. And you can apply that logic to most of your components in the PC and outside of it. To get a new PC will basically translate to a new CPU, new Motherboard, and a new GPU. And if you want it to look differently, you could also get a new case instead of reusing the old one. And probably some new fans depending on what you had originally and how well you took care of things. And maybe Memory.. depending if your old memory isn't the "new" standard. Welcome to the modular design of PCs. And Apple... well, doesn't have that. So they gouge you for full price next time and you can't do anything about it if you want to stay in the Apple family.

Can confirm the new MacBooks run very, very hot. After around an hour of playing Doom (via sourceport - yes, I mean Doom classic) the bottom of my fiancés MacBook Pro is straight up boiling and I power it down because to be honest I know that PC components should not be running that hot for long.
This is from running a 25 year old game.

My gfs one year old laptop was struggling to download some software to update her satnav... she had been trying for almsot 2 hours because her windows laptop is so slow... tried on my old iMac and within 15 minutes it was all sorted. Find me a 2005 windows off the shelf computer that will even boot up in 2019?

I've been a mac user for the last 10 years. But I just discovered that replacing my macbook pro from 2012 (1250 dlls at that time) it will cost me arounde 2700 for something with the a new processor but less memory and ram.
So I decided not to buy Mac again and I got a gaming Predator PC for only less than 1k on black Friday and running an ubuntu file system on top of the terminal I can fill most of the dev spots I've discovered in all this transition.
Certainly apple is going to loose a lot of clients in the dev market, even the company that I work for stop buying macbook pros for the new devs, and now they are giving them macbook airs which sucks tremendously, some devs are preferring to bring their own pcs.
