The people who buy Macs don't care about temperature or performance, they just want people to see they have a mac when they're in the library studying or coffee shop. Is it bad for Apple to take advantage of these kinds of people? They often don't care about burning their money and likely enjoy having to buy a new Mac in a couple of years. So... Is it really that bad?

yeah yeah.. Macs are optimised only to be slim. Nothing else anymore. No NVIDIA, no big internal memory and limited CPU power. I've been using Macs for 18 years now and have a PC for 3D for 1,5 years. And Windows has actually evolved into something I like using. So, next generation will be full PC.

This might be a stupid question, but could you use a fan controller to boost the fans before you run an intense workload? Here is a program that can control Mac fans:

It's simple in iPhones we have A chips ... and MacBook Pro is just great for size/look/features ... and please compare it with something similar .. in looks and weight ... like premium dell or Lenovo ...

Yes, apple is trash, what else is new. How about you just don't buy an apple product; instead buy a decent PC laptop and put linux on it. At this point, its so easy to get a good linux distribution and you can play most video games on it; there really is no excuse not to do it. Or you can just use windows 10 and play around with WSL 2 which is great. What has always baffled me is that most of my developer colleagues tend to use Apple laptops even though as you pointed out, this type of marketing works usually on non-tech savy individuals. They all know full well that they are getting ripped off with an inferior machine via these kinds of cheats but they are too lazy to install linux. I've always developed on Linux or Windows (yes it was painful) but I also like to play games and do video editing.

Thanks for this video Linus. This is very disturbing news. Could one engineer an app that monitors temps and kick in the fans before the cpu reaches such temps? If someone knows of an app that does this, please let me know! Thanks!

The laptops are pretty trash atm but I wonder what apple release next month (macbook month). Maybe, maaaaybe they will fix this with the next generation design. I have doubts but lets see. Do u have a vid about macOS on a different laptop? (HP, asus etc)

This video is actually very important from a sociological standpoint. If here isn't perfectly encapsulated the argument that most people on this planet are self (aka image) obsessed morons, than I don't know where it is better encapsulated....maybe someone out there can help with this?

Take note of it (particularly if you're under the age of 20!) and you won't find yourself banging your head against the wall most of your life expecting people on average to act like anything but idiotic sheep.

Can you make a video showing how to rescue a Mac Book Pro 2011 with a 'melted' graphic processor? Reballing is it called? or how to add freezers to the back of my Mac to make it work as it should? Roasting is great, share solutions/fixes is better.

These are all good points - and are very true.
The one area where macbooks win out for me personally however is having a user friendly BSD unix distro on the back end of macOS that is easy to get into and has great community support with tools like homebrew and the internet at large. Coding/development doesn't use a lot of horsepower unless you're trying to run data science models on your laptop (hint - use the cloud instead), so the kneecapped potential of the hardware components isn't too much of a trade off.
Bottom line is that macOS is a superior development environment imo, and having the OS made to measure the hardware does unlock a lot of value.
Windows 10 WSL and ubuntu are pretty sharp though. Now that WSL 2 is out, I could be lured away from macOS for a fleshed out Linux experience and tools like apt-get.

I have an old HP elitebook I got refurbished for $250 in 2014 and have used it reliably for gaming for years by adding an external cooler fan at temps averaging 100'c and peaking as high as 107'c before auto-shutoff. only time I've owned a macbook the power cord started smoking and it fried itself after six months and only using it to take notes in class for school.
TL:DR mac products are a fire hazard

As a Dell fan, I am very sorry to say it, but Dell is exactly the same... I have the Dell Precision 3530, which I bought after my 7510. Both are unusable if used the way Dell advertised.... 3530 I use with a egpu (RTX 2070), I had to turn off the weak Quadro P600 which inside because of temperatures and EVEN with the Quadro which is inside being turned off, and an external cooler for the laptop, the device still struggles to be in the frequencies Dell promised... it often drops below 1.5 GHz !

What about the 7510? Well there the cooling was fine, but I still had to use an egpu (1070), because of the FirePro W5170M (which was advertised by Dell as the gpu which will show off performance in all 3D demanding software) was not detected by any Autodesk software and even not by Blender soft. AND NOT EVEN by Dell Precision Optimizer, it was worked in games only... I called Dell, they put me in contact with a resolution manager (Ben Burroughs) whose answer was "Well, maybe it doesn't need to be recognized to be working" and hanged up the call.

you said it yourself. Apple know what kind of people buy their products and take advantage of that. They don't even want their products to last. They want their costumers to keep buying products which makes sense but most other companies can't get away with making horseshit products and people still buying em

  • thisisnotdom

Mac do two things well though. User experience (i.e. Low noise, slim form factor, nice display etc.), and an os that does many things better than windows.
And I can say that for work, I would much rather have slightly slower cpu speeds to a chunky laptop which has fans kicking in all the time, especially when lots of properly demanding tasks will be run on a cluster anyway.
Basically the whole video is just saying that to have a quiet, slim laptop, you need to make performance compromises, which is pretty reasonable.

If memory serve right; Intel used to go for its clumsy Pentium4 chips trying to break the 4GHz barrier when Apply did the move from IBM to Intel. The first Intel based macs been using the mobile (duo) version that had much better performance to heat ratio. Gamers had already adopted the use of Mobile CPUs allowing better thermal control then Pentium 4. Intel soon ditched the Pentium 4 idea as a baseline for their future product. Rumours are that Apply drive some of the development of future intel chip generations. Why does this matter? Intel is not an Arm based chip and its design baseline once again reaching its limits. Surely there is also the factor that apple makes much more money with iphones then any of the other devices. So that laptop/desktops are more of a niche market for them.

A video talking about Macs, comment section: muh gaming bla bla bla. Just to see how retarded people are.
Macs and Linux are made for developers and not for kids gaming. Plus if macs were made for gaming the games would be 10000x better optimised than in windows.

Honestly, and I come back to this over and over again, the reason an Apple computer works as well as it does, is because it runs a reasonably solid BSD OS, with custom drivers specifically worked on with the hardware manufacturers, (while other BSD distros have to write source code, largely as a hobby because no hardware manufacturer supports BSD) with a damn good GUI over the top. Those factors alone make a Mac many times better at most desktop tasks than a Windows machine.
What is baffling, is that it specifically doesn't help task intensive applications, like the majority of the Adobe suite, or even Cubase with enough VSTs. Yet this is still the place Apple computers are most frequently used. In fact, I would almost go so far as to say that the most common use cases for Windows, and MacOS are completely reversed for their primary strengths and weaknesses. You *should* run Office productivity, eMail and web browsing on a Mac, and do your high end video renders, software development and compiling on a Windows / Linux PC.
Of course, I tend to think that gaming, these days, would probably be best served by a desktop version of Android, but that also highlights the *why* of all of this. That *why* is historical markets, and software back-catalogue. There are simply more 3rd party Adobe plugins for Mac, more games written specifically for Windows, and Microsoft Office rules the productivity roost, and they primarily target their own Windows OS. It has nothing to do with the hardware, or the OS it's self. It doesn't even have much to do with the marketing, or the type of users and what they respond to. With commercial OS, it's all about captive markets, and because those markets are captured, Windows doesn't have to worry about how bad it is for gaming, or productivity, because those users are tied in to Windows and aren't going anywhere, and Apple don't have to worry about how bad their computers are at Adobe CC for the same reason. :(
That's also the *real* reason users need to bite the bullet and switch to an open system. Android is, for now, mostly, but there's no saying it will always be so. Linux and / or BSD would be far better. Heck, AROS or Haiku would be better, and if any *one* of these were popular enough to have enough developer hours behind them, they would deliver what users want and need in no time. Those captive market bonds are too strong for that to become reality any time soon though, and not without a massive push, or failing by these giants.
