Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters - four young women each determined to live life on her own terms -- is both timeless and timely.
Little Women (2019) is the new drama starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson and Eliza Scanlen.

Amy is a significantly younger than the rest of the sisters. That’s why only Meg and Jo get to
go to many social events while the rest don’t. I believe Amy is about 12 when the book starts. Also Meg is blonde, same as Amy. Jo’s supposed to be the least pretty of the sisters but with gorgeous hair which she clearly has not in this movie. That’s why she cuts it and donates it later on in the book . I pictured Emma more as a Jo. And what’s up with that actress with a deep grownup voice as Amy???? Omg! These are LITTLE women, YOUNG teenagers. Not women in their 20s. Especially Emma who is almost 30. They can kinda pull it off except Amy! And Laura Dern is a bit too old to be Marmee. Well, I didn’t love the 90s rendition of Little women but at least the ages/physical features where more accurate!

The horrible comments I've read and received from triggered men based on a simple praise of a good film absolutely proves what the problem in Hollywood and this world now. People in the positions of power see that it is no longer so easy to hold back truth and right. Why is that so terrifying to you guys.Sad little men.

Wow.... just wow, this movie looks terrible because I ain't the target audience for it, but I still love women because they are beautiful in their own way. This movie looks like women complaining about somthing that sociaity has moved passed. Woman are equal and in some ways better then men, the fact you want every man to love and adore this movie just is like asking the world to agree to have peace, or for America to give up guns, but sure woman are still opressed. Even though its more likely a court would belive a woman in a domestic vilonce trial.

Amy: “ well I’m not a poet I’m just a woman. And as a woman there is no way for me to make my own money, not enough to earn a living or to support my family and if I had my own money, which I don’t, the money would belong to my husband the moment we got married, and if we had children they would be his, not mine, they would be his property, so don’t sit there and tell me that marriage isn’t a economic proposition, because it is, maybe not for you but it most certainly is for me!”

Today's man: "Well, I'm not a poet, I'm just a man. And as a man there is no way for me to make my own money, as half of it would go to any wife who chooses to divorce me the moment we were no longer married, and if we had children they would be hers not mine, they would be her property, of which I would need to pay dearly for the privilege of seeing them on occasion, so don't sit there and tell me that marriage isn't an economic proposition, because it is, maybe not for women but it is most certainly for me."

    My, how times have changed.

@hammertapping You're an ignorant moron and in no way comparable to the top critics to which I linked. This is one of the HIGHEST-rated films of the year, and the respected Anthony Lane of the New Yorker says "it may just be the best film yet made by an American woman." I have thought hard about other such films, and it is clear he is right.

Good movie EXCEPT for Laura Dern. She played the role like a west coast yoga instructor. All her lines were delivered with this wimpy smile; not at all like a woman raising a family during the Civil War with great hardships. Whomever casted Laura Dern should not be allowed within 50 feet of a theatre or film set.

    • Abc Def
      Abc Def 15 days ago

@Kerry Z I have seen Eva Longoria act in Desperate Housewives. Marmee's strength in that scene is precisely BECAUSE she buries and disguises her anger. If she was a woman who openly ranted (as you do), she would have been less powerful.

    • Kerry Z
      Kerry Z 16 days ago +1

@Abc Def Ha. The scene you're describing perfectly demonstrates my point. "Marmie" talked about her everyday anger in a sing-songy voice with that same insipid smile she had in every scene. Eva Longoria would have been more believable. If you've seen Eva Longoria "act", you'll understand how poorly I thought Laura Dern did.

    • Abc Def
      Abc Def 16 days ago

Of course, if you want to watch Laura Dern playing an aggressive woman, you can watch her lawyer role in Marriage Story this year (a film on Netflix). She just won a Globe for Supporting Actress for it.

    • Abc Def
Abc Def 16 days ago +1

Disagree. As many critics noted, her performance, along with several other smaller roles, was quietly powerful. She was sweet and smiling most of the way, as you said, but notice the scene when she reveals (spoiler) that she has a deep-seated anger buried within her. ("I'm angry every day.")

The fuck is this? I am not from an English-speaking country, but we read "Little Women" by Louisa Alcott in school (as an example of socially relevant non-European / North-American literature from the time periods of Vormärz, Realism and Naturalism). This looks like another piece of shit adaption who can't get the mindset, restraints, possibilites and situation of the US in 1860-1870 right. I hope they do not push any US SJW topics again...
