I'm a Miami Heat fan.......but KD is the MVP for THIS SEASON.
He has slightly out-performed all around.......and by far in scoring.
LeBron is worrying too much about his statistics......I saw that back in the 2011 season......he worries about shooting a high % which isn't bad cause it can help the team in efficiency....but can be a catch 22 if you just gonna sit there when everybody is tied up and you wide open, but you don't wanna shoot cause it's not your spot. But anyway, big LBJ fan,but he's not this year's MVP as far as I'm concerned. Durant has became a straight monster in the last 3 months.

After yesterday the gap between the two has been closed but KD has the slight edge for MVP. Still KD's scoring is going to drop with the insertion of Westbrook in the lineup while it may look like LeBron's average is going to increase (he's been on a rampage these past few games) and it doesn't look like his efficiency is taking a hit either. Rebounds are marginal and LeBron has the edge in assists. LeBron's been a lot more efficient then Durant from the field while KD has certified another season of 50 / 40 / 90 (not sure about this) across the board. IMO this MVP race is going to come down to who is the better defender down the stretch of the season. Voters might overlook this particular aspect but if LBJ picks up his effort (more losses to teams under .500 in comparision to over) on defense which in turn translates into more wins that will persuade the voters one way or another. However LeBron has been slacking on defense while KD has shown massive strides on this side of the floor this year. This MVP is race is going to be interesting & two perimeter players making a case like this hasn't been seen since LeBron & Wade in 09/ 10. Coming from a LeBron fan I still expect KD to win his first MVP this year despite the case LeBron is making right now in tandem with KD's phenomenal year & voter fatigue kicking in.

Whether or not Durant deserves MVP by the end of the season or not, the media has already decided that KD is this year's MVP.

It really is not hard generally the best player on the team with the best record usually wins it but not always. Kevin Durant has better numbers and his team has the best record all they have to do is continue to be the best team in the West and he should get his MVP.

Kevin Durant. What he has done in the absence of Westbrook has been amazing. He has improved in all areas again this year. Lebron doesn't seem to be taking the regular season as seriously which is ok. Durant is the MVP so far.

Hold on....Duran't TS% is 641% and Lebron is 651%. Their efficiency is virtually the same. This also happens to be the first time in 4 years Lebron has led Durant in TS%.
I'd still give Lebron the nod as the better player because he has been for 8 years, but as for the past 4 months Durant has been the better player. Ill crown him when he stays ahead of Lebron for at least a year and a half.

Kevin Durant to me is having an incredible year, but Lebron is by far the better player IMO. Durant has a ton of freedom and is def on another planet when it comes to the offense side of the ball. Even in college he was known for his offensive skill set. His defense has improved greatly and he has the biggest gap in the NBA when it comes to scoring and holding the player he is guarding to not scoring. LJ is 4th!!
Lebron is the ultimate teammate, he doesn't force shots and plays within the system. They both are incredible and you can't go wrong with either one.

@gerizzyYMcrew Well if I was forced to choose, I pick Lebron as I stated and that's an opinion, but again you can't go wrong with either one!!

KD probably deserves MVP til' this point in the season but it could change, still 30 games to go.

Listen Lebron is clearly a beast and one of the greatest of all time. I think espn has programmed ppl to elevate him to a level he isnt yet on. I never compare bron to jordan, magic, bird, kobe, kareem, duncan, hakeem players as such. A basketball purist know that all those players have maximized their game & got every drip of potential outta there game. Bron is leaving so much on the table. As good as he is his game is so flawed. Outside of athleticism his game has holes in it. He is a great passer & outside of that what does he do great? He picks his shots becuz he isnt confident in his offensive ability to score. His ball handling, rebounding, footwork, rebounding technique, freethrows, and etc need to improve. Most of his points come off open court plays, freethrows, & lay ups. When superstars such a melo, PG, durant check him he calls for a pick to get the switch so he can score on a mismatch. Durant on the other hand only needs to hold the ball tighter to him when he attacks the rim cuz in playoffs he wont get that call, but other than that he has perfected his game.

So far KD. He's the guy who single handedly has led the thunder to the top record in the NBA. If he's gone, the thunder have a REALLY hard time winning. If Lebron was gone though, the heat would still have wade, bosh, Allen, Beasley, and Mario charmers and a healthy Greg oden is great too. Then we have to look at their teammates and how good these two play without their sidekick. Lebron without wade, the heat usually lose even to bad bad teams. Durant hasn't had Westbrook for a while now and his numbers have been through the roof and the thunder have the top record in the NBA. Durant gets MVP and probably a ring this year.

I expect LeBron to turn it up after all star break as he has done for the past few years. We've seen the best of Durant and with Westbrook coming back I doubt he will have all those stats consistently.

KDs numbers will fall back to norm once Russell Westbrook gets back. He takes about 15 shots a game and has the ball 40% of the time. so it'll make a huge impact on everything

Is this even an issue for the 1st half of this year, he is doing better or swell in almost every category. His team is also winning at a higher percentage in a tougher west division with its 2nd best player out.

Lebron is my favorite player but kd is better than lebron this year, that's not really debatable. Lebron has pissed me off at times with his poor effort on defense this season but he's picked it up in the last 2 weeks. Kd on the other hand, I've been really impressed with his defense, I don't think he's dpoy yet but he's definitely one of the 10 best defenders in the NBA, I was mostly impressed with the way he shut down melo the other night. Obviously I'm still a little biased and I do still think Lebron is the best player in the NBA, but as far as this year, kd is the better player.

  • Red Ace

Durant definitely has the lead right now, but not by an insurmountable margin. If Lebron starts picking up the intensity, which I imagine could happen through the final stretch of the season leading to the playoffs, its possible that it could flip. It would have to be Lebron on beast mode though. Durant is definitely closer to getting an MVP than he's ever been before in my opinion.

Kevin Durant thus far and I wouldn't even say its close. But not just for his numbers but for the team to be having such success not even skipping a beat without Westbrook. He's turned into a great leader and he's figured out how to make those around him elevate their game

LeBron has been lazy on defense. And if people say that he's coasting as an excuse then that's even a bigger reason he shouldn't be MVP.

LeBron is my boy but KD already won the MVP of the 1st half of the year. LeBron can still come back stronger because I know for a fact that KD will. He's on a mission right now, so I'm gonna wait to see who has the better 2nd half of the season before I make a decision on who my MVP is.

@shawn newton LOL!! When he says "winner" he means Championships. I'm sure 99% of NBA players would choose a championship over a great regular season.

I won't be biased here. I'm a LeBron fan. Durant right one is the MVP, but I think LeBron has a chance to win it, if he goes out and dominates the second half of the season, which he very well may. If he doesn't, fine, but I opdont think the MVP race is over at all

  • Robert Moore

This season kevin durant having the better year...lebron is lazy on defense this year but I agree I see that he is sav I no energy but I think for the last 2yrs around this time durant has been ahead of lebron on mvp race then after the all start somehow lebron turns it on and snags it...but lebron effort has been better in February than it has been all season besides that Utah game he look more energized but we will see how it play out

Hey bruce, what do you think about Chris Paul then? I remember you saying you picked him to be MVP at some point. He's my favourite player, but I gotta say I think he might have flopped his way into his own injury. Great to see him doing well these two games that he's been back

LeBron's defence this season has been terrible, it's hilarious that he came out and said that he should win DPOY this season.
IMO KD has been the better player so far this season and the MVP so far.
And on a side-note, it's HILARIOUS that LeBron-stans are using RINGS in an argument as to who's better THIS season, after all they've been through debating Kobe-tards!!

  • Keith Stephen

I would have to go with Kevin Durant ending up wining the MVP, because the OKC Thunder are currently leading the Western Conference in wins, and also because Kevin Durant is leading the NBA is scoring average. While Lebron James team The Miami Heat are struggling to maintain the second best record in the Eastern Conference, behind the Indiana Pacers.

  • TheAwesomeBoss3

Kevin Durant the guy has been on a tear lately without Westbrook and he does more to help the team and he has a better record than LeFlop and the Heat despite playing a tougher schedule.

  • Pär Sekut

If the season ended today, then it would be Durant.
But that's KD's problem: high minutes, high energy. He's going to be running on fumes at some point. The turnovers will start adding up, the percentages will go down...
I think LeBron will catch up. Let's call it an educated guess.

    • Pär Sekut

@Rick Steck Well, if he does that'll save Durant's season. He can lower his minutes and stay efficient and coast along to the MVP award.
