Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Hands-on: This is $1000

Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 is a beautiful, powerful phone that plays it safe. But the new S Pen is Bluetooth, the cameras have AI, and the battery has been, um, blown up to 4000mAh. 🔥

I find it a pity they have removed the Dual Camera shoot mode with the One UI update. I hope they will bring it back with the next update. Has anybody else noticed it?

Australia will be getting the 512GB with 8GB of RAM for the price of 128GB with 6GB of RAM for pre-orders only. After Pre-order date 512GB will be at the RRP of $1799 and 128GB at $1499 in Australia.

These prices for latest phones are ridiculous, the melt value of the phone isnt even near half of the price tag.

I have such a hardon for this phone. Partly because the all out marketing campaign Samsung is doing on it. If you have read the news, Samsung's sales, and share of the smartphone market has suffered a lot due to the Note 8 debacle. That being said, I am a Samsung devotee. The only "problem" is that I have a GS8+, which I love. Now, the trade in offer -- which includes my older S7 Edge+ [smiles] -- is generous. But I feel a bit consumer fetish-y in wanting this bad boy/girl so much. A tough decision.

I've had the Note 4 since 2015... never looked back or considered a newer note. IR Blaster, Removable battery, 1440p resolution, SD card,... you can't find that any where today. My laptop has collected dust ever since. For those of you who have owned a Note you know what I'm talking about. True it's not for everyone but those who really use it for all of its intended features will get well beyond ANY apple product.

By the way, I tested this in a Best Buy yesterday: S Note and the S-Pen support tilt shading (with the pencil option), so have fun!
I know I will when I can finally put my aging Note 5 to rest (and have ALL of the cat photos and videos I have ever taken at once).

I like the idea that you can take a picture with using the S Pen , when you are away from the phone , so that means you don't have to have anyone taking a full body shot of you , but you can do it yourself now , thanks to note 9 S Pen .

    • Bo Soerjadi
      Bo Soerjadi Year ago

You can likely already do that with your current (Android? Or just Samsung?) phone, with a voice command. Activate it in the camera settings and just say "cheese" (or "smile" or "photo").
The true power is that you can freely assign the functions of the remote button to several other apps and that you can still BT-connect with other devices.
With built-in Dex remote controlling slideshows. Skip forward/pause the music player while you're in the shower. Declining the phone call while it's charging and you are a few feet away busy doing something important, with your S-pen in your pocket. Remote control your phone that itself remotely controls your Gear 360..
I can't wait to play with that button's capability.

I would say that what you said has value for only this year (8910 vs smap 845).... generally Exynos processors have better performance then the respective snapdragon ones....... I owned a galaxy note 2 with exynos... and its battery life was undescribable!! I could stay two days with lots of performance and unic features..

  • Luis Miguel Méndez González

Well, bye bye S8+. Welcome Note 9. I think this is the Galaxy everyone should buy this year if you want the best overall package. 4000mah, 128gb, S-Pen, amazing 6.4 display, 6gb of ram or 8gb if you go for the insane 512gb.

The Note 9 is getting back to its roots. The Galaxy Note 5 and Note 8 where essentially variations of the S series phone, with the S-pen and one or two small changes. The Note 5 and Note 8 also did not really give off the same feeling as the Note 2, 3 and 4 did. The Note used to be the do anything phone, with a ludicrous spec sheet, plenty of battery life and lots of storage. Finally, I believe the Note 9 has that again. Great job Samsung.

Get the bundle pre-order... by doing so, you can get the Harman AKG N60NC ($249) for free and if you have a smartphone for trade-in, you can save at least up to $150. Later on you can sell the headphones and your final cost for the Galaxy Note 9 could be $700.

I don't get it at all! I've notice that whenever a new note comes out it's always on old software and whenever the regular galaxy lineup comes out it's on the more newer software! For to say the galaxy note is the better phone why Samsung never update there flagship phone from start? For that amount of money I'd rather buy a cheaper budget phone that's running Oreo 8.1 out the box instead of this failure. I'm sure the galaxy s10 will come with Android Pie straight out the gate!
