I would suggest you learn to downshift properly when wanting to slow down or come to a stop. When you up shift why do you slip your clutch like that. Riding in this fashion will do two things, burn through your brakes and your clutch.Best of luck on your motor swap.

This draws unnecessary attention on ebikes from the authorities. This is what they will use to impose more laws and regulations. You blow through stop signs, go between cars, man...

@tonytypes you're welcome :) so you don't have to stop at stop signs in California?

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 16 days ago

Different states different laws. Or you just don't don't bike much on the roads in California. FYI those cool guys in their lycra tight clothes and road bikes can go just as fast or even pedal faster than the speed I was going. Blow through stops sign? Lol I don't think slowing down to a slow crawl blowing through a stop sign. If the coast was clear its safer to start going instead of completely stopping if not needed. It takes a bicycle much longer to cross than a car. You may want to take a better look at that intersection on how it works. Go between cars? Yeah it's actually legal to do that in California if your approaching a light and the far right lanes turns right and doesn't continue straight. Only someone who doesn't bike on the road will stay to the far right and try to cut straight and get ran over. Also a bicyclist is allowed to be in the left lane if you need to make a left turn. Or you can use the crosswalks and walk your bike across at each light. I'm not speeding through a special bike path or flying down the cross walk...well ok only just for a couple feet as the bike lane ended and I needed to turn right so I used the parking lot since it was safer. But at least you watched my video :) lol thanks

@Gamer37 I would say get a Grom if you can find a good deal on one. The clones are cheaper tho but as they say cheap buys twice. If you know how to work on bikes you should be fine. A few things needs to be swapped out to make a clone ride reliably

@Gallardo6669 The display and controller are full of bugs and there is no support. The PAS, speed sensor and brake switches are rubbish, always failing. In my opinion the first roll out of this kit is an unfinished project in beta and not good. The motor is ok though.

Grom requires an adaptor, can vouch that og boom requires only this and the brake spring to be cut off for everything to work. From the 5ft I rode it with it half together, it feels fast. Big bike fast. Only time will tell if it's both fast and reliable.

Are their suggested torque specs in the install documents or videos if they exist? Do you think it is well built. I'm a little on the fence. I could get a BBSHD and I know it will last forever. I have a question for you as in I have the GNG Belt drive motor, virtually the same setup up... what are you r throttle out voltage values, I am in the default @4V/sec and the bike will not throttle from a dead start, after running with PAS the throttle is very choppy and then cuts out, I am sure my voltage limits are wrong. Would you be willing to upload the hex file for your setup? I t really should be a big help to get my GNG running propery..... thanks!!!

Yup it fits perfectly with needing to use the rubber inserts. Those are used doe bars with a smaller diameter. So far I haven't had any issues with the mount moving or twisting while riding through some rough trails. The mount is solid and holds the phone great! Very easy to use and only needs one hand to mount and dismount while riding!

Should of just got the bbshd..

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 3 months ago

Also I've had mines for a while now and haven't had any issues. Some are reporting issues but a lot of it is due to user error. I've heard more issues with the BBSHD such as stripped gears, error messages preventing the motor to work, and throttle/pedal assist not working together. Every DIY motor setup will have issues, just some people post more and some don't. The X1 doesn't need many aftermarket parts like the BBSHD to work. Yeah you can swap displays on the BBSHD because the ugly stock display sucks, no BT, cannot be easily programmed on the fly, why so many different chainrings that is like proprietar. It's awesome to have customized options, but from my perspective you only need options because there is an issues and you need those options to work on the bike.

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 3 months ago

@Thomas daniel Gausten the BBSHD will stick down under the frame. Not good for a modern full suspension bike. Who wants a motor sticking down and reducing the ground clearance? Plus it looks like a big ball sack hanging that low on a bike. If your riding on the street or have an an old frame with the triangle frame then it will work, but not on most of the newer bikes these days. Just saying... everyone has their opinions and views. If the BBSHD fits my bikes I would have gotten it, but it doesn't fit nice like the X1.

    • Thomas daniel Gausten
Thomas daniel Gausten 3 months ago

The bbshd with a shim will fin any and every bike. I've fitted them on many bikes with no issue. The cyc is hella ugly and noisy. Had high hopes for it and after a look sold mine straight away. The bbshd is easy to repair. Has many customing options. So far not other bolt on kit has it beat in my option. I have one on a 2005 santa cruz and a 2019 commencal dh bike. Until cyc fixes all its bugs I think it will just die out. Good luck with it tho. Thomas

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 3 months ago

No the BBSHD is outdated and doesn't fit the new modern bike frames. Yeah if you have an old bike frame the Bafangs will work ok, but the CYC is clearly much better than the BBSHD. Not to mention the BBSHD has that one plastic drive gear that will strip under heavy load and heat. Road use will be ok, but for trail riding I doubt it will last long over time. But the BBSHD is quieter so it is better on that end

    • tonytypes

It louder than the BBSHD for sure. The CYC can be quite if you keep motor power and rpm down. Depending on what bike your putting the motor in, if you have a modern bike with a curved downtube near the bottom bracket the BBDHD would not make a great choice as the motor will sit too low. The CYC will fit most modern bikes better, but it is slightly louder.

They look like cool motors, but too slow for me. I'm better off with the GNG Cyclone setup or a Lightning Rods Big Block kit. I use them for commuting on busy streets with traffic flying past me, so I need something that goes at least 45mph so I can take a lane and not worry about dumb texters on smart phones hitting me. I'll always choose my safety over the law. The law regulating ebikes is only concerned with revenue collection.

@tonytypes Yeah, I believe it even though I haven't seen anyone using it like that yet. Having said that, I'm pretty sure the Lightning Rods Big Block has a bunch more power, especially for the middle of the road price point between the GNG 3000w & X1.

Oh trust me the X1 is not slow at all. It can do much more. I was just running a lower voltage that most people won't use. Also my gearing is for trail riding and not road. 'm using a 12s battery in this video. Most guys will be using either a 14s or 20s battery with the X1. My setup currently goes about 35mph with a small battery and smaller chainring. This motor will easily do 40+mph with bigger chainring :) but yup always have to watch out for distracted drivers. Check out my other video I posted of me and my commute to work with this bike. It rips!

@denis la yes I used the BB92 to threaded BSA adapters. Got it on Ebay for 12 bucks.

@tonytypes Did you use adapter? Your bb is press fit is it?

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 4 months ago

It should. But depending on the bike you may need to get threaded BB adapters. Also bikes with boost spacing may have bad chainline. Most likely the largest granny gear cannot be used under motor power due to the chainline. My bike in the video is a Commencal Meta V4.2 AM

It sure doesn't. I can't make this climb on a non ebike without having to stop a few times to catch my breath

tonytypes hell yea id love to. I actually got it with an ebike and set it to an ebike ride but for some reason, it gave me KOM. My cyclone just got a 32t in the front and i haven’t had the chance to take it to a trail yet

whats the gradient up there? you not tempted to boost the power a bit?

    • tonytypes
      tonytypes 4 months ago

Not sure but it's pretty steep and goes on for a couple hundred feet. I am tempting to program the controller for more power, but I think the power is just right for pedaling. I want to get a good excercise and not use all motor.
